Where We Began ...

AWOL Founder Kayleigh Dickson found a love of snowsports whilst studying for her Masters of Architecture at the University of Westminster, UK. The course was intense, therefore snowsports became her mental and physical escape, however it was once she graduated with honours, that she realised that sitting behind a desk wasn't for her. AWOL was founded on a gap-season, whilst Kayleigh was training for her BASI Snowboard Level 2 exam, now we are working with some rad skiers and snowboarders.

AWOL Snowsports are a small team of snowsports and climbing professionals, who all share a passion for being in the mountains. Currently we are designing apparel, which are all organic, recycled or sustainable products for the snowsports and rock climbing industries.

When designing our clothing we wish to remain true to our ‘all inclusive’ values, designing for men and women equally, skiers and snowboarders alike.

Since establishing AWOL, this shift in the industry has seen snowboarding become as respected as skiing at an international level. Free-skiing and snowboarding are now a World Cup sports and freestyle for both disciplines takes centre stage at the Winter Olympics; terrain parks are dominated by young riders and the emergence of backcountry freestyle for the UK shredders has been remarkable.

Are We All About Snowsports?

Hell NO! We share a love of being in the mountains, whether that is on a snowboard, pair of skis or scaling a rock face. From winter to summer at AWOL it is all about being within the mountains, exploring new territories.

Ethically sourced organic cotton from farmers in the the UK allows us to support the local businesses and communities.

Organic Cotton, Recycled or Sustainable materials

Sustainable Development

We create Organic, Recycled & Sustainable products for snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing and the outdoors. Since 2017, and it will never change ... only ever grow.

Sustainable and Recycled Material Ethos

Recycled Plastic Bottles Into AWOL Tees

We believe greatly in the importance surrounding recycling one-use plastic products into clothing. The reduction of plastic waste will relieve stress on landfill sites, our seas and their wildlife, as well as the negative effect it will have on the environment and future generations.

Environmental Standards

The effect that one-use plastic is having on the environment is huge and needs to be address in our generation so that it doesn't develop in to an irreversible action. Yet there are other factors that need to be considered when creating awesome clothing, therefore, we comply with the following standards and organisations:

Global Organic Textile Standard

"The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) was developed through collaboration by leading standard setters with the aim of defining requirements that are recognised world-wide and that ensure the organic status of textiles from harvesting of the raw materials through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing all the way to labelling in order to provide credible assurance to the consumer"

OEKO-TEX Standard 100

"The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is a worldwide consistent, independent testing and certification system for raw, semi-finished, and finished textile products at all processing levels, as well as accessory materials used. On the basis of its comprehensive and strict catalogue of measures, with several hundred regulated individual substances, the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® takes account of:

  • Important legal regulations, such as banned Azo colourants, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, cadmium, nickel, etc.
  • Numerous harmful chemicals, even if they are not yet legally regulated."

Organic 100 Content Standard

A voluntary chain of custody standard that provides companies with a tool for third-party verification that a final product contains the accurate amount of a given organically grown material. Each organisation along the supply chain must take sufficient steps to ensure the integrity and identity of the input organic material.

From Farming to Mountains

All our materials are sourced with the intention to reduce our impact on CO2 emissions.  We endeavour to work with as many local and small businesses, as to encourage support and growth for those smaller businesses.

Hand-printing! Yes, we have now made huge steps forward, bringing all our block and screen printing in-house. We come from a creative and pro-active background, therefore it just seemed right that we made the efforts, taking courses to develop our skills.

We are making the switch to sustainable packaging, so that from the raw material, through to the delivery of the final product, it is as sustainable as possible.

All our products are hand printed here in the AWOL Snowsports Studio, which allows us to guarantee a high-quality finish, as well as an immense amount of creativity.

We are stoked to announce since April 2018 we started printing all our tees and hoodies in-house!

In further growth from May 2019 AWOL Mountain Wear will be bringing the embroidery of all our products in-house! Through thorough research and development, the threads which will be used are produced from recycled plastic bottles.

We have been printing in-house our Limited Edition Tees since December 2017, and hopefully for many more years to come!
